Stegouros elengassen écorché study © 2026 Elizabeth Masters. Stegouros was named in 2021 from an exceptionally complete skeleton discovered in what is now Chile. Living about 74–72 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous, Stegouros is one of the most important dinosaur finds from southern Gondwana. A relatively small dinosaur at 2 meters (6.5 feet) long, its tail ended in a unique, flattened weapon made of fused bony plates.
